Buying a new home is one of the biggest investments you’ll ever make. With the average
home in England costing £232,944 as of October 2019 according to landregistry.data.gov.uk you will want to do every bit of research you can before you take the plunge. Nothing affects the
value of your home like the surrounding area, as the saying goes, it’s all about location,
location, location. So what checks can you do before you put an offer in on your dream
home?
1) Use a crime mapping service such as https://www.police.uk/. You can see a map
based on a particular postcode and view how many crimes took place via category
per month. It’s a handy tool to see if burglaries are high in your desired area.
2) Check with https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/ to see if the postcode of your new dream
home is part of a neighbourhood watch community. They are the largest crime
prevention movement in England and Wales with 2.3 million member households!
There are a number of great resources on the website, such a burglary prevention
tool kit to name just one.
3) Check the number of homes for sale in that area. If there’s a large amount this could
indicate a problem in the area such as crime
4) Tour the neighbourhood at different times of the day. A place can look very different
during the day when most people are at work compared to a weekend when
residents are home
5) If you can, talk to the neighbours and ask for their opinions and thoughts on the area.
Once you are satisfied and enjoying your new home add another layer of protection to your
home and family with a monitored burglar alarm. It will protect all of the members of your
family including the furry ones. We know that your dream home and belongings are important to you and no two homes are the same, thats why we work with you to meet your security needs. If you’d like to have a chat about designing a security system that fits your home get in touch.
