Occasionally security cameras may capture more than you bargained for. We did a bit of digging and these are some of our favourite clips from around the world – which prove you never know what you might see on screen.
Five of the strangest things captured on cameras around the world:
1)“Dobby from Harry Potter”
Vivian Gomez, from Colorado, America, got the shock of her life when she woke up one morning in June this year and discovered a strange elf-like creature walking around on her driveway. The footage from her home security cameras quickly went viral, with over 12 million views on Facebook and thousands of people speculating on what it could be – the most popular consensus being Dobby from Harry Potter. The actual culprit has yet to be found.
2)A caped crusader
A Batman lookalike was captured on the cameras of three separate shops in New South Wales, Australia, earlier this summer. But rather than trying to capture the bad guys and save the world, he was spotted running through businesses looking for cash. When confronted, he threatened one member of staff with a knife and another with a rifle. Detective Inspector Bruce Grassick said: “I can tell you right now it is quite distinctive the clothing he is wearing”.
3)Bears stealing honey
Turkish bee-keeper Ibrahim Sedef was sick of waking up every morning to find his hives had been trashed in the night. Footage revealed the culprits to be a group of hungry local bears. Mr Sedef has been unable to capture the bears or stop the break-ins but is now using them to “taste test” his honey, setting out various options in bowls and watching which one they like the best.
4)Man with TV on head delivering TVs to people’s homes
Cameras usually capture burglars taking TVs out of people’s homes, but residents of one American town were left shocked to discover someone had left them new ones overnight. In just one night earlier this summer more than 60 television sets were left in the gardens and porches of residents. And when they checked their cameras things took an even more bizarre turn – the mysterious culprit was dressed in a jumpsuit and wearing a television on their head!
5)‘Ghost’ child playing in middle of night
A New York man was left stunned to discover what he claims is a “ghost child” playing in his home in the middle of the night. The footage shows two blurred images moving across the screen and has been viewed thousands of times on YouTube, with some claiming it looks like a child playing with their pet. Others are less open-minded, claiming it could simply be dust or static.
Security cameras are great, but the footage is mostly used after the matter has happened, which isn’t so great in the event of a burglary. We prefer to prevent thieves from entering your property and our external alarm boxes are a great deterrent.
However, should an intruder enter your home, our camera PIR’s which are installed as part of our home security package can be viewed live and up to 10 stills captured at a time. As soon as we receive an alert to tell us your alarm has been activated we send a guard to your property and alert the police if an intruder is confirmed too. Furthermore, if you need to claim on your home insurance after a burglary we will pay your excess, just another way we go the extra mile for our customers.
